The giant Te Pake sand dunes are a 10-minute drive from the Cape Ring lighthouse, the northernmost point of the North Island and New Zealand as a whole. Last time, on the way back home, I was so carried away by the winding serpentine road that we passed the lapel on the sand without blinking an eye! Vacation, and the summer of the 15th, we spent most of the time first on the South island, and then on local beaches near the house, so that the traditional trip to the North we somehow postponed by ourselves until the best case! Mount Roraima is a surprisingly mysterious, almost fantastic place located in the South-East of Venezuela. This is where Brazil, Venezuela, and Guyana meet. Due to its unusual shape, this mountain has long been inaccessible to researchers, and its very existence has been questioned.
Roraima is one of several table mountains located in this region. These mountains are called tepui, after an Indian tribe that once lived in these parts. Table mountains have a flat surface and rise above the surrounding areas for several hundred meters, or even more. Continue reading
