TA-Prom temple is one of the most monumental on the territory of the Angkor Hindu complex in Cambodia. It is located in a dense jungle in a dilapidated state. The terrifying force of nature “strangles” the temple: the trees that for centuries entwined the towers, terraces and statues of TA-prom have changed them beyond recognition. And the vines formed a kind of natural dome over the temple.
The construction of the TA-Prom temple was completed in 1186. It was built in honor of the mother of Emperor Jayavarman VII in the traditional Khmer Bayon style. Continue reading
5. The last free city on Earth
In the Colorado desert (southeastern California), there is a place called Slab city. There are mostly those who have nowhere to go – they are tramps, homeless people, disillusioned hippies and elderly people. This city consists of trailers and makeshift shacks. In the 40s, there was a military base and training ground, which was moved ten miles to the North. And almost every night, the locals listen to the sound of gunfire mixed with the howling of coyotes. After the war, there were many bunkers, observation bases, and other structures called slabs-hence the name of the city. Continue reading
