River trips with thrills

Уou can feel the adrenaline rush as you glide across the surface of the river on a truly jet-powered boat. Hold tight on turns and u-turns. Believe me, you will never forget this river trip.

In New Zealand, Queenstown has long been recognized as one of the best holiday destinations on the planet for several reasons. The stunning Alpine scenery, dry climate and year-round entertainment season have always attracted travelers of all ages and professions to this region for many decades, but only one thrill-filled entertainment, Queenstown has become truly popular.

Stunning scenic landscapes and a Grand performance are just a 10-minute drive from the city. Only a few organizations offer thrilling and exciting river trips, unique and breathtaking trips on the water with a huge adrenaline rush. The leader among them is the world-famous travel company Shotover Jet.

The water jet boat instantly picks up speed and the river trip begins. The ship is speeding down the Shotover river into the spectacular canyons that rise above the river. The speedboat glides just a few centimeters from rock ledges and stone boulders. A stream of white drops of crystal-clear water flies apart with every turn, but the fate of the passengers lies in the skillful actions of an experienced pilot.

Water-jet boats are specially designed for use in the upper reaches of the beautiful new Zealand river Shotover, and were named “jetboat” (jetboat). The hull of the boat is made of thick-walled aluminum, as it must be as strong and maneuverable as possible.

Boats equipped with water jet engines that emit hundreds of liters of water per minute, drive engines with a capacity of 450 HP, running on high-octane aviation fuel. The propulsive setting of a speed boat operates as follows. Water is sucked in through the intake grate located at the bottom of the housing. The internal propeller (impeller) draws water through the nozzle at a speed of 25 thousand liters per minute, which is pushed out, creates a thrust equal to the speed of the boat about 85 km/h.
Shotover Jet’s Big Red water jet boats
Eight Shotover Jet boats are named “Big Red” for their distinctive red color, and are designed for use in the river canyons of the Shotover river. Each of the boats can accommodate 14 passengers and one pilot. The power plant of each water jet boat is two MerCruiser V8 engines with a total capacity of 700 HP. the Propulsion system is represented by two Hamilton 212 Jet water meters with a capacity of 760 liters of water per second. A unique combination of design and configuration allows the boats “Big Red” to race at a speed of about 85 km / h in the water column of only 10 cm.

Shotover Jet, New Zealand’s largest tourism company, has recently re-established its status as a world leader in the development of extreme river trips. Water-jet boats were specially developed for the company, which became the fifth generation of highly specialized small-size vessels. The new speedboats have a number of improvements, which include an upgraded hull to improve fuel efficiency and minimize passenger wetting. The body is made of carbon fiber to reduce weight. Each seat is equipped with multi-point passenger fixation. High-speed boats are equipped with handrails with improved cushioning, while having ergonomic positions.

Shotover Jet started its business in 1970 and since then, passenger safety has remained the company’s top priority. And it all started with a wooden boat “Jet 53”, which could accommodate only five passengers. Since then, the organization has become a leader in innovation for adventure tourism and for many years has been a model for the development of water-jet boats, improving safety systems.
