5. The last free city on Earth
In the Colorado desert (southeastern California), there is a place called Slab city. There are mostly those who have nowhere to go – they are tramps, homeless people, disillusioned hippies and elderly people. This city consists of trailers and makeshift shacks. In the 40s, there was a military base and training ground, which was moved ten miles to the North. And almost every night, the locals listen to the sound of gunfire mixed with the howling of coyotes. Over the past year, twenty new caves have been opened in Vietnam, including the giant Han Son dung cave, or hang Sondong (the name can be translated as “mountain river Cave”). In fact, the local tribes that live in the jungle have long known about this cave, but they were afraid of it because of the whistling sounds that make the underground river flowing in this cave. The world community only became aware of this natural wonder in 2009, when a group of British researchers from the British Association of cave explorers (BCRA) examined this cave.
